Messenia is a region located in the western part of the Peloponnese Peninsula in Ancient Greece. It was one of the most important resources for the Spartans. The Messenians contributed to Sparta's wealth through their agriculture and labor resources. However, Sparta and Messenia were involved in two major wars, resulting in the conquest of Messenia by Sparta and the enslavement of the Messenians. The Spartans gained great wealth from the resources they obtained from Messenia.
