NATO navies have been mobilized in the Atlantic, Pacific and Mediterranean as a display of deterrence against potential adversaries, particularly Russia. In response to the increase in Russian navy activities, three NATO aircraft carriers from the US, Italy, and Spain participated in NATO vigilance activity, Neptune Strike 2023, Dash one. This exercise involved 31 ships and 135 aircraft, including the new F-35 Joint Strike Fighter. Approximately 8,386 sailors and marines from 21 NATO countries participated in a wide range of naval air and ground activities providing deterrence and reassurance. Although Russia's invasion of Ukraine was not explicitly mentioned, the exercise's purpose was to intimidate Russia and show NATO's readiness to defend. The Russian navy's aggressive attitude in the Mediterranean has caused concern, increasing the risk of incidents with NATO forces in the region. As tensions escalate, the situation could lead to serious consequences.
