Today I want to show you how I have restored my new toy, a rusty wooden spokeshave tool.
I received this rusty tool plane as a gift (I love this kind of gifts), I had been looking for one for some time and by chance it arrived. I've never used one, so I'm looking forward to finishing the restoration to practice a bit.
After disassembly I used vinegar to remove rust and finished with the wire brush.
Before painting I leveled and polished the bottom with sandpaper of different grits.
I used a primer before painting the two-component paint black for the body and red for the blade cap.
I didn't want to paint the two draw screws so I burnished them in oil.
The blade, which was very corroded by rust, I leveled it with sandpaper and I redid the edge with the sharpening stone, it did not remain perfectly mirror polished but it is more than enough for the work it has to do.
As you can see in the video, I definitely need a lot more practice to say I know how to use a planer, but it is a very relaxing tool, I will definitely use it to create a handle for an ax or a pickaxe.
Hope to inspire you to save old items ;)
