This video shows how to use a simple chord that moves chromatically to create tension and release in a phrase.
The tune is Yesterdays, and this is set for a 4 horn jazz combo, Trumpet, Alto Sax, Tenor Sax, Trombone and rhythm section. This is the introduction of the chart, first stated in rhythm section only, then for the horns, which leads into the tune itself. This snippet does return at the end of the chart, but shortened somewhat.
