In this video, I teach you step-by-step how to build a variable AC voltage dimmer regulator, 5,080 watts at 127V and 8,800 watts at 220V. It's ideal for controlling the rotation of rotary motors such as fans, drills, Makita tools, sanders, grinders, and others. It can also be used to regulate the temperature of heating elements such as those in electric showers, packaging sealers, electric ovens, soldering irons, incandescent lamps, etc.
Materials and components used to build this dimmer:
1 Triac BTA 41 600B,
1 Potentiometer B200K,
1 Diac DB3,
2 Polyester capacitors 100nf 400v,
1 Resistor 10k 5±%,
phenolic board for printed circuit board.
The dimmer is a widely used device for controlling electrical voltage, allowing for variation in the power delivered to different equipment. Its main function is to control the light intensity of lamps, allowing you to adjust the brightness according to the needs of the environment, providing energy savings and increasing the lifespan of the lamps.
In addition, the dimmer can also be used in other applications, such as controlling the input voltage of transformers. By regulating the input voltage, it is possible to control the output voltage, which is quite useful in devices such as pyrographs, which require precise control for burning wood and other materials.
Other common applications for dimmers include:
Electric showers: where the dimmer can regulate the water temperature by adjusting the power used by the heater.
Packaging sealers: by adjusting the heating level, the efficiency of packaging closure can be improved.
Fans: allows control of the blade speed, offering a personalized adjustment for comfort.
Therefore, the dimmer is a versatile device that is not limited to lighting control and can be applied to various types of equipment that require power or voltage adjustment.
A dimmer is a variable voltage regulator, not a fixed one. As you can see from the information above, it can be used to control various electronic devices, as long as they are AC. It's important to note that this regulator does not work with direct current, therefore it cannot be used as a bench power supply, battery charger, or anything of that nature...
