Double-Take Availability can protect multiple production servers, either Physical or Virtual, by replicating the entire server in real-time to auto-provisioned Virtual Machines on either VMWare ESX or Microsoft Hyper-V.
This method is called "Virtual Recovery Assistant" or VRA. When using a Hyper-V Virtual Machine to protect a production workload, it is possible to install Double-Take on the Hyper-V host and replicate directly to the Microsoft Hypervisor. When using VMware ESX, it is necessary to deploy a Windows Guest Virtual Machine in order to host the Double-Take Service.

This Video shows the process of protecting an Exchange 2010 server (running on Hyper-V, though it could be running on any platform), being protected to a Virtual Machine running on VMWare ESX.

The Video demonstrates how "Test Failover" can be carried out and how Auto-matic failover can bring the Exchange Server back online, as an ESX Virtual Machine in just minutes whilst ensuring no data loss.
