Located on the west side of JR Ueno Station, Ueno Park was established in 1873 as Japan's first urban park. Within the park, which is about the size of 11 Tokyo Domes, there are art galleries, museums, concert halls, and a zoo. It is famous for its approximately 1,200 cherry trees, including Somei Yoshino and Yamazakura varieties. During the sakura season, the illuminated trees create an emotional atmosphere, attracting nearly 3.3 million tourists every year. Shinobazu Pond is also a famous spot for lotuses, which have been depicted in Ukiyo-e prints since the Edo period.
