SCP-073 appears to be a tanned man of Arab or Middle Eastern descent, approximately thirty years old, 185 cm (6 ft 1 in) tall, weighing 75 kg (165 lbs), with black hair and blue eyes. The subject's arms, legs, spine, and shoulder blades have been replaced with artificial ones; their origin and the metal they are made of are unknown. The subject only notices this when pointed out, and claims to have no idea how, why, or when these changes were made, and that they have been there for as long as he can remember. A symbol, presumably of Sumerian origin, is tattooed on the subject's forehead. The symbol has yet to be translated, and the subject becomes agitated when the symbol is mentioned and refuses to discuss it. The subject requires food and water regularly, but subsists solely on animal matter due to its effect on plant matter.
SCP-073, who refers to itself as "Cain," is generally polite and friendly to all who speak to it, though its speech has been described as cold and somewhat mechanical. It is very helpful and enjoys assisting staff with everyday tasks, whatever they may be. It has a detailed knowledge of history, from ancient times to the present, and speaks fluently in common languages, including extinct ones. The subject possesses a photographic memory, able to memorize word for word the entire text in an eight-hundred-page dictionary after scanning it for ninety minutes. He has scored above average on all intelligence tests taken.
The presence of SCP-073 is detrimental to any living organism growing in soil, causing death to such organisms within a twenty-meter radius of the subject. The soil over which SCP-073 passes (and within a twenty-meter radius) becomes sterile due to the death of all anaerobic microorganisms, rendering the soil incapable of supporting life until new microorganisms emerge. Anything derived from soil-grown organisms, such as wood and paper, instantly rots and disintegrates upon contact with SCP-073. Anything grown hydroponically is also susceptible to these effects.
