October 20 2014 Ecoboost Cold Start Noise - Stretched Timing Chain TSB 14-0194
This is the noise my 2011 F-150 Ecoboost makes almost everyday on a cold start. This grinding noise you hear is the "stretched timing chain". There is a TSB to fix this issue but ONLY if your truck actually breaks down.
The stretched timing chain causes this rattle noise, lower power, and less fuel economy. It's also wearing metal parts in your engine which can obviously lead to engine failure down the road.
