Workshop Report Part 3: Ideas from Lessing
For today's addition to the Workshop Report Series, I go back not to the Fiction Workshop course, but to a Philosophy course I took my sophomore year called History of Aesthetics. In that course, we read a text by Gotthold Ephraim Lessing titled "Laocoon: An Essay on the Limits of Painting and Poetry." It had some very interesting ideas about revealing detail in fiction that were really relevant to what I learned about detail in my Fiction Workshop!
