Please please please be careful if you try this trick of cleaning your cast iron (enameled) or pizza stones in your oven’s self-clean cycle. If you have a very dirty or greasy pan or pizza stone, the extreme heat might cause it to ignite and cause a fire. Please be aware that I use this oven self clean method two or three times a year as routine maintenance so grease and oil does not have a lot of time to build up to dangerous levels. That said this is a great way to clean your Pizza stones and enameled cast-iron without having to scrub them tirelessly or use harsh chemicals.
