Stacking FUZZ On FUZZ: Bliss Factory into Spline Laboratories Cathedral on Bass Guitar (No Talking)
I’ve always loved sounds that are a little too harsh and chaotic. Some of my favorite bands regularly use experimental and taboo gear settings. Some of my least favorite artists still get their hooks into me with their sonic palate.
I have found that the only way to press forward into that great unknown of tone is to just try silly things until they work. Today, that silly thing is stacked fuzz.
The Bliss Factory has long been in my top 3 fuzz pedals. It was actually one of two specific fuzz pedals that actually got me to stop casting fuzz aside as distortion’s uncomfortably unhinged uncle. I love the chaos of it. It forces me away from playing in the standard blues rock style that most of us associate fuzz with, but it’s also doesn’t let me slink into the comfort of contemporary metal all that easily due to its rowdy attack and gating. I must myself change to play it successfully, and that excites me endlessly. Chase Bliss and Zvex made something special here.
The Spline Labs Cathedral is very new to the scene of fuzz pedals, and have very much marketed themselves in the musical vein of hyper-aggressive metal. All of their demos were so texturally magnificent that I had to get one and see if it was all hype or not. It turned out to be a VERY deep saturation machine.
I decided that they needed to be paired up with each other. Let me know what you think!
