The ASG M40A3 Sportline airsoft sniper rifle is always the first airsoft gun that people recommend to the beginner airsoft sniper. And whilst I bought this rifle to modify anyway, I found out that this rifle isn't what I thought it would be.
Even though I immediately took this gun to bits and therefore violated one of my principles of naysaying an airsoft gun that I hadn't used stock. The fact of the matter is that if it was left completely stock this airsoft sniper rifle wouldn't have a chance against even moderately upgraded guns firing at a much lower velocity.
If you wanted to use this gun out to a medium range, it'll probably be okay. But you'll be fighting a losing battle against basically anything on the field aside from a springer pistol. As you'll never have the medium range deadliness of even a semi-auto AR build.
