In Conversation With... Jo Brand & Khadija Alamary
The fourth in a series of conversations with refugees and those involved with supporting refugee resettlement in the UK. This time, Jo Brand and Khadija Alamary have a conversation about community sponsorship and how Khadija and her family have settled in the UK in rural Devon.
Bermondsey Welcomes Refugees is a community sponsorship group of volunteers with the mission of resettling a refugee family into the Bermondsey and Rotherhithe area of London, as part of the UK Government's Community Sponsorship Scheme. They welcomed their first refugee family in June 2021.
The group formed in September 2019 with an initial 4 volunteers, this has now increased to over 20 volunteers. We are a diverse and inclusive team with the majority living or working in the area.
