Hi everyone. In this tutorial, I'll show you how to apply fade in or fade out effects to individual letters inside a single text layer, not just words or the whole text. Let's get started.
Step 1. Add your text.
Go to the Text tab and add default text to the timeline. Type your desired text and customize the font, size, and style as needed.
Step 2. Create a compound clip.
Right-click on the text layer and select Create Compound Clip.
Step 3. Add a filmstrip mask.
Go to Video Mask, click Add Mask, and choose the Filmstrip mask. Adjust its position and size to match the letter you want to fade in or out.
Step 4. Duplicate the compound clip.
Duplicate the compound clip and place the copy on the track above the original.
Step 5. Reverse the mask on the bottom layer.
Select the bottom layer. Go to Video Mask and click Reverse. This will invert the mask so the opposite area is affected.
Step 6. Apply fade animation to the top layer.
Select the top layer (the copy). Go to Animation and apply a Fade In or Fade Out animation as needed. Adjust the duration to control the speed of the fade.
Step 7. Preview your result.
Play back the timeline to see the selected letter fade in or out while the rest of the text remains unchanged.
And that's it. Thanks for watching.
