'An Ode To Vinyl ' (A Short Film)
I had always wanted to make this short film about Vinyls/records. As was with the first film 'Parents' Love' earlier in this year in May, I had the storyboard embedded in my head all this while. Started at 530pm in the evening of 6 August, i set up my equipment in my room, fimed all the scenes I wanted and then spent a few two hours or so with post production and editing on my computer till I am satisfied with what I saw. Not bad for 4 hours of work and I am happy with the result. I choose to edit it on an 'old film' format to capture the mood of the 1950s, 60s and 70s when records and vinyls were the main medium on which music is played and circulated. I also chose a piece of my favorite record and song called 'Peter Gunn' by 1980s avant-garde instrumental band The Art of Noise, to feature in this short film. What you hear in the video is also what was recorded during filming, that punchy and warm sound coming from the turntable.
With this short video, I hope to share with all my friends here one of my passion and love in listening to music on vinyl. Music on vinyl is making a strong comeback and resurgence around the world and here too in Singapore. I only regretted not catching it on earlier though I grew up with cassette tapes and CDs. Back to the days when music is more than 1s and 0s and invisible as it is now in digital formats, it was also a time when music was tangible that could be felt, touched, seen (the record sleeves) and also heard in its purest analogue form.
Dedicating this short film to all vinyl fans, both now and for those whom it awaits. Enjoy and thanks for watching.
