Before 2020, just 17% of US employees worked from home.
But that number increased dramatically to 44% during the pandemic and similar trends were seen worldwide.
The effect was a change in employee demands on a global scale, with a clear preference for remote-friendly and flexible working styles.
All of this means that companies that hire internationally with global-first professionals in mind have a much better chance of attracting
and retaining top talent.
Airbnb is a great recent example of this trend. In the week after the company announced that its employees could work remotely on a permanent basis, there were more than 800,000 views of its careers page.
