Boston University researchers have developed a new Artificial Intelligence model that predicts the likelihood of developing Alzheimer's Disease within six years—just by analyzing a patient’s speech. Study results were published today in the leading peer-reviewed journal "Alzheimer’s & Dementia: The Journal of the Alzheimer's Association®"
“If you think about many other chronic diseases including diabetes, hypertension, even cancer, there are early diagnostic procedures and even predictive models used for prognosis. This has not been the case for Alzheimer’s disease. Our study makes an important step in that direction.”
--Yannis Paschalidis, lead author, director of Hariri Institute for Computing, Boston University and distinguished professor at the Boston University College of Engineering.
By relying only on speech-to-text modeling and basic demographic data to achieve highly predictive results, this novel method offers the potential for developing inexpensive and easy-to-use screening tools, democratizing access to this type of screening.
