STELS Navigator 710 MD & V - Mountain Bike Review
Today we'll talk about the STELS bicycle with an aluminum frame and 27.5-inch wheels... It has a number of interesting features. But first things first...
Navigator 710 MD V010. The bike is available in two models – with rim and disc brakes. And the first feature is the 15.5-inch wheel size! This allows people up to 160 cm tall to try out the modern 27.5-inch wheel standard, instead of the 26-inch wheels that are gradually becoming obsolete.
The wheels are 27.5 inches in diameter, feature double-walled aluminum rims, and are versatile tires. It's everything you need for those who want a versatile bike. It will handle both city streets and rough terrain, should you want to take a spin on a forest trail. Quick-release hubs allow you to quickly remove or install the wheel for easier transportation in your car.
Now, about braking. This bike is equipped with a disc brake with a rotor... note... 180 mm. The brake disc diameter on most mountain bikes in this segment is 160 mm. Here, it's increased by 20 mm to ensure maximum comfort and effectiveness.
This bike is designed for active riding. A three-speed front derailleur and a 9-speed Shimano Altus rear derailleur will help you achieve this. They guarantee stable shifting even under load. And a spring-elastomer front fork with 80 mm of travel smooths out road imperfections while maintaining control.
A nice touch is the separate shifters, which allow you to upgrade the bike later, for example, by replacing the brakes, without replacing the entire unit.
The closed cartridge bottom bracket makes riding more comfortable, reliably protecting the component from dust and dirt, and eliminating the need for regular lubrication.
Fork, brakes, derailleurs... And what about the frame? Hydroformed aluminum... But that's not all... The second key feature of this bike is that the frame is made not from the classic 6061 alloy, but from the new lightweight X6 alloy. What's so special about it? Let's see...
We prepared and took two frames with us – the first made from the new X6 alloy, the second from the classic 6061. The frames are the same size and have similar geometry. Let's weigh them...
The first frame weighs 1.85 kg, the second – 2 kg.
The X6 alloy frame is 7.5 percent lighter due to the alloy itself being stronger and having higher tensile and deformation resistance.
This allows us to make thinner tube walls while maintaining their strength. And the lighter the frame and the bike itself, the better it rides.
And by the way, X6 alloy is less susceptible to fatigue, meaning the frame will retain its properties and the bike's rolling performance longer.
