Waterflower - Mycelium (Step By Step) (Official Music Video)
A mycelium network = The internet?
Composed with mushroom-generated melodies, Mycelium (Step By Step) was extracted from wild chanterelle mushrooms gathered from the heart of the Latvian forest. The mycelium-music was recorded using naturally-generated bio-data (based on the mushroom's living and changing electric capacity) and used as MIDI information. If you listen carefully, you can still hear the un-edited mushroom music fragments within in the song. The recorded samples of mushroom-music were a key part of the first song arrangement process.
The music video and visual identity of the song was inspired by the dial-up modem-like mushroom sound that was a result of this experiment. Filmed completely on their own, using a green-screen and a couple of trips to the forest, Waterflower tapped into the mycelium, and created an unusual and wacky audio-visual journey.
"Waterflower - Mycellium (Step By Step)" enjoyed the success of being selected for the 2022 edition of Riga International Film Festival (Riga IFF), taking part in the competition for "Best Baltic Music Video".
