Robert Zubrin speaks with us about the case for Mars and makes the case for bypassing the moon to go directly to the Red Planet. Robert Zubrin is founder of the Mars Society. He has played a leadership role in the National Space Society and he was the driving force behind Mars Direct, a proposal intended to produce significant reductions in the cost and complexity of colonizing Mars. He is the author of The Case for Mars and many other books about our future in space. He is a former Staff Engineer at Lockheed Martin Astronautics. He holds a Masters degree in Aeronautics and Astronautics and a Ph.D. in Nuclear Engineering from the University of Washington. Dr. Zubrin is an inventor and the author of 14 books, over 200 technical and non-technical papers in areas relating to aerospace and energy engineering, and is the inventor of over 20 US patents, with several more pending including several unique concepts for space propulsion and exploration, the author of over 200 published technical and non-technical papers in the field. He has won several awards for his design of a nuclear rocket engine and for his design of the "Mars Direct" mission architecture.
