About this session:
It's easy to want to see the world, from backpacking through Central America to eating your way through the market stalls of South East Asia, many of us are eager to get out there and explore the world near and far. But it's important to understand that some travelers face challenges that many others don't. These could include outright discrimination to unconscious bias, especially if you identify as gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender, queer, intersex, pansexual, two-spirit, androgynous, or asexual – we abbreviate this into LGBTQ+. Travelers of color, disabled, or even women can face difficulties in some locations. During this session, we will dive into some of the challenges LGBTQ+ travelers may encounter unique challenges abroad. Joining us in this conversation is Gregg Potter. His latest project is The LGBTQ+ Interchange looks at how we travel more intentionally while also sharing knowledge, experiences, and culture through different intersections. Gregg has recently launched a two-week program in South Africa, to further develop participant’s transformational leadership skills while also providing a trip of a lifetime.
About the Speaker:
Gregg is a connector. This gift and skill set of connecting has created many opportunities to expand educational and work experience in different sectors. He worked in upper management and community engagement for Starbucks in Los Angeles. He has worked in the restaurant industry as general manager, district manager, and consultant. Potter is also a trained facilitator and futurist often getting hired to consult and facilitate strategic planning. He has also been trained in conflict resolution by Bob and Alice Evans. Potter has a BFA in Theatre Performance from University of Nevada Las Vegas and a Masters in Public Service from the Clinton School of Public Service.
Gregg is the Founder and CEO of Project Kinect; a marketing and logistics firm in Madison, WI, USA. He is also the Regional Field Director of Southern Africa for Peacework International. Additionally, he serves as a Lead Facilitator and Marketing Specialist for Step Up: Equity Matters in the Workplace.
Shona Smith is the founding partner of Out Travelling , a LGBTQ focused global travel partner. As a member of the LGBTQ community and with a deep love and passion for travel, Shona has used her experience of twenty years within the travel industry to establish a travel agency that doesn't just take pride in what it does, but also understands the unique complexities associated with travelling to a foreign country as LGBTQ+.
