Hi everyone, it´s been a while! I have been really busy with various projects, gigs and recordings, which Im happy with...however I get a lot less time to record these type of videos. It´s nice to spend time trying to get a good mix, and getting the real sound recorded.
Anyway, here is Duke Ellingtons classic. I have always loved this tune, especially from my days at music college playing it in the Duke Ellington Repertoire Orchestra, led by the great Tony Faulkner. I´m finding myself going back to these compositions as more and more Im hearing young players shredding notes at lightning speed. Speaking to fellow sax players my age, a lot of us are coming to the feeling that it just doesn't "move" us much any more. Although very impressive, and skilled, it somehow leaves me feeling a bit empty. I much prefer a great melody and sound over the shredding. And besides, I cant really shred hahaha
But I guess thats why music is great...we choose what we like and there is something for everyone. No one has the right , winning opinion.
Hopefully I will get chance to record more over easter, we are also busy editing atrio album we have recorded. Fingers crossed I can share this with everyone soon!
