8PB Kalpetran Embd
Die Ortschaft Embd mit rund 300 Einwohnern liegt auf 1400m hoch über dem Mattertal Kanton Wallis und liegt rund 10km südlich von Visp auf dem Weg nach Zermatt. Über viele Jahre war der Ort nur zu Fuss erreichbar. Im Jahr 1891 kam die Eisenbahn. Sie führte aber rund 500 Höhenmeter tiefer im Weiler Kalpetran vorbei. Hinauf bis nach Embd baute man in den 30er Jahren eine Materialseilbahn welche 1957 in eine Personenseilbahn mit zwei 4er Kabinen ersetzt wurde. Die Talstations liegt auf 902müM und befindet sich direkt am Bahnhof von Kalpetran.Danach führt die Strecke sehr steil über eine Höhendifferenz von 523m bis auf eine Höhe von 1425müM.

Die 932m lange Seilbahn wurde 1987 durch L+P Küpfer in eine Pendelbahn für 8 Personen pro Kabine umgebaut. In Eechmatte befindet sich auf der einzigen Stütze ein Zwischeneinstieg. Kurios, die Bahn besitzt als einzige Pendelbahn mit kanonaler Konzession, (mal abgesehen von der zurückgestuften BAV Bahn auf die Engstligenalp) eine Fangbremse. Die mehr als 500 Höhenmeter auf weniger als 1km Strecke machen die Bahn zur steilsten öffentlichen Seilbahn mit kantonaler Konzession.
The village of Embd with around 300 inhabitants is located at 1400m above the Mattertal canton of Valais and is around 10km south of Visp on the way to Zermatt.
