Sofeast's CEO Renaud Anjoran and product reliability expert Andrew Amirnovin cover 'Design for Maintainability' in this video.
The product designer may choose to optimize the product design for easier maintenance which may be expected by customers for certain product types. For instance, a car is designed to be maintained and consumables can be replaced at home, such as air filters and oil, or in the garage.
Diagnostics may also be included in the design in order to provide the user with information about the product's reliability and whether it needs attention yet, such as a battery nearing the point of replacement in an electronic product.
