The far side of the moon, largely unexplored until the Chang'e-4 mission in 2019, has revealed several unexplained phenomena. The Yutu-2 rover discovered a gel-like substance in a crater, initially speculated to be impact glass from meteorites, and detected unusual radio signals of unknown origin. Additionally, the rover's Lunar Penetrating Radar revealed layered subsurface structures, challenging existing models of lunar formation and evolution.

Anomalies in the mineral composition of lunar rocks, higher porosity, and lower thermal conductivity of lunar soil were observed, affecting theories of lunar formation and future habitat designs. Unusual temperature variations on the surface suggest possible subsurface heat sources.

Chang'e-4's magnetometer detected unexpected magnetic field anomalies, hinting at the moon's ancient magnetic field and interaction with the solar wind. The rover also observed crater formations that defy current impact models, requiring further investigation. In the end of this video you can see Mare Crisium, with its unique geological characteristics and contrasting basaltic plains and highlands.
