There are six super intelligent dogs in the world, considered to be true geniuses. You can teach your dog dozens and dozens of commands, but the situation is different when it comes to learning the names of objects. It would seem in fact to be an ability that is the prerogative of few, an extremely rare ability, that only very few dogs possess. Just like humans, some dogs can also be more gifted than others. The Genius Dog Challenge, a project of the Eötvös Loránd University in Budapest, studies these genius dogs and their abilities. Dogs of different breeds and from all over the world have undergone the Genius Dog Challenge tests. At the beginning, only six dogs proved to be able to remember dozens of names of objects: Whisky from Norway, Nalani from Holland, Squall from Florida, Max from Hungary, Gaia from Brazil and Rico from Spain. Theirs is a unique talent, which cannot be taught even after months of training. To find these genius dogs and train them, their pet mates conducted a seemingly simple test. In one room, they placed toys, while in another room there was their reference human, who asked his dog to fetch a specific object, saying its name. The test showed that almost all the genius dogs tilted their heads before going to fetch the object. One of the hypotheses formulated is that these dogs able to recognize objects based on their name tilt their heads to pay more attention to what is being said to them or, even, are reflecting on that word. As in humans, even in dogs, skills therefore depend on the individual, a phenomenon comparable to human talent.
