Do you know which company was the first in the world to reach the $500 billion mark? Popular guesses would probably include Apple, Exxon, and Google, but the first company to reach $500 billion was actually Cisco, back in 2000. At the height of the dot-com bubble, Cisco was the most valuable company in the world, with a market capitalization of over $500 billion. However, since the dot-com crash, despite Cisco's best efforts, they have been unable to return to their former glory. Currently, their market capitalization is barely half of its peak, approximately $250 billion. To make matters worse, Cisco has made several acquisitions over the past two decades. This means that Cisco's core valuation today is even lower than $250 billion. This video explains Cisco's fall and why they haven't been able to recover the highs reached in the dot-com era.
