Welcome to Mind Mentor, In this video we will discuss about Arthritis. It is a medical condition that primarily affects the joints in the body. It is a broad term that encompasses more than 100 different types of joint diseases and conditions. The most common forms of arthritis are osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis, but there are many others, including gout, ankylosing spondylitis, and psoriatic arthritis.

Here's a brief overview of the two most common types:

Osteoarthritis (OA): Osteoarthritis is the most common form of arthritis and typically occurs as people age. It is often referred to as "wear and tear" arthritis because it develops over time due to the breakdown of cartilage, which is the cushioning tissue that covers the ends of bones in a joint. As the cartilage wears away, bones can rub against each other, causing pain, stiffness, and decreased joint mobility. OA can affect any joint but is most commonly found in the hands, knees, hips, and spine.

Rheumatoid Arthritis (RA): Rheumatoid arthritis is an autoimmune disease where the body's immune system mistakenly attacks the synovium, which is the lining of the membranes that surround the joints. This can lead to inflammation, pain, and damage to the joint. RA typically affects multiple joints and can cause systemic symptoms, such as fatigue and fever.

Symptoms of arthritis can vary, but common signs include joint pain, swelling, stiffness, and reduced range of motion. These symptoms can be chronic or episodic and may worsen over time. Arthritis can have a significant impact on a person's quality of life and daily activities.

While the exact causes of many types of arthritis are still not fully understood, risk factors can include age, genetics, joint injuries, obesity, and environmental factors. Diagnosis often involves a combination of medical history, physical examination, imaging studies, and blood tests.

Treatment for arthritis aims to manage symptoms, reduce inflammation, and improve joint function. This can involve a combination of lifestyle changes, physical therapy, medications, and in some cases, surgery. Medications may include pain relievers, non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), disease-modifying antirheumatic drugs (DMARDs), and biologics, depending on the type and severity of arthritis.

Living with arthritis may require adjustments to daily activities, exercise routines, and diet to manage pain and maintain joint health. It's important for individuals with arthritis to work closely with healthcare professionals to develop a personalized treatment plan that best suits their needs.
