How to do Multi Cameras Sequences in Adobe Premire Pro
Premiere Pro Multicam Setup for Interviews
Use this when you have multiple cameras plus boom and lav audio, and you want to use external audio only.
Premiere’s multicam workflow uses a multicam source sequence that you then edit inside your main timeline.
Create the Multicam (Correct Settings)
Select all clips from the same interview:
FX3 clips
Second camera clips
Boom audio
Lav or WAV audio
Then go to:
Clip menu, then Create Multi-Camera Source Sequence
Use these settings:
Synchronize Point
Timecode if everything was jam-synced
Audio if all clips have strong matching audio
Create Single Multicam Source Sequence
Turn ON if there are gaps or breaks
Sequence Preset
Automatic
Offset Audio
0
Audio Sequence Settings
Camera 1
Audio Channels Preset
Stereo (prevents multi-channel issues)
Camera Names
Use Clip Names
Why Camera 1 Matters
This is the key setting.
When audio-only clips are included, Premiere:
Places them on top tracks
Keeps them active
Mutes camera audio below
That is exactly what you want for boom and lav audio.
Avoid These Settings
Do NOT use:
All Cameras
Activates all audio and creates layered multi-channel output
Switch Audio
Audio switches every time you cut cameras
These cause:
5 stacked audio layers
Audio only in one ear
Messy playback
If Sync Fails
Usually one clip has weak or no audio.
Fix:
Sync the clips that work
Open the multicam source sequence
Manually line up the problem clip
Put it on its own video track
Important:
A clip only becomes a selectable angle if it is inside the multicam source sequence.
If Audio Is Only in One Ear
This is almost always routing or panning.
Fix inside the multicam source sequence:
Go to:
Window menu, then Audio Track Mixer
For each dialogue track:
Set Direct Output Assignment to 1–2
Set Pan to 0 (center)
If a clip is truly one-sided:
Use Fill Left with Right
Or Fill Right with Left
If needed:
Project panel, then Clip, then Modify, then Audio Channels
Fix channel mapping
If Clips Have Gaps
Turn ON:
Create Single Multicam Source Sequence
This keeps all segments in one multicam.
After Creating the Multicam
Open the multicam sequence.
Click the wrench icon:
Enable Edit Cameras
Reorder angles
Turn cameras on or off
Simple Rule to Remember
For clean interview multicam:
Sync by Timecode when possible
Otherwise use Audio only if ALL clips have usable audio
Turn ON Create Single Multicam Source Sequence
Set Audio Sequence Settings to Camera 1
Set Audio Channels Preset to Stereo
Manually place clips with no audio
Fix one-sided audio in the Audio Track Mixer
Follow this and you avoid:
Missing cameras
Broken sync
Multi-channel audio issues
Left and right ear problems
And your multicam just works.
