Kyra Vashenko-Chao | "She is a Machine"
(I literally made this last night. I'm genuinely surprised at how well it turned out.)
I am not exaggerating when I say that Kyra is my favorite female television character. Or maybe even my favorite female character of any kind. I am generally not a fan of female characters. I mean, I like them, but I rarely love them and honestly, there are very few that don't irritate me on a regular basis.
With Kyra, ugh, I wish she had been a character when I was a teen. I would have idolized her! There is too much that I love about her for me to write it all here. But one of the things I love is what I tried to focus on in this video:
The first season we are introduced to this character who is unfeeling, a machine, she has issues, blah blah blah. I absolutely love how as the show continues we realize she is not unfeeling, but actually she feels TOO much. She has so many emotions, but is socially awkward and doesn't know how to handle them. (Am I the only one who relates to this??) When she meets Alex (and then by extension Tom and Jack), it's like this journey of her struggling with and coming to terms with feeling joy, love, anger, all of these emotions that she had been shutting away for who knows how long. And it's just UGH. It's beautiful.
