I'm back with the first project that was completed during my "time off"! We've been wanting this solar well installed for quite a while, and it is definitely coming in clutch now. Though the drought has lightened a smidge, we are going to be dealing with the consequenses of 3 straight years of awful drought for a long time to come. The ponds, especially the ones in this pasture, are completely unuseable. The water quality is bad and the mud is so thick that the cows would hurt themselves just trying to reach the water. Enter our solution: a good well, and a new cattle waterer. This new waterer is an absolute unit, but at the same time its going to be really easy to move. Barber Industries has what I believe is the best livestock water tank on the market. It's built to last with easy to find repair parts.
Water is our biggest limiting factor when it comes to trying to implement better grazing practices in our pastures. This is the first step down the journey of high-density rotational grazing. I still have a lot to figure out, but you have to start somewhere...and this...is a great first step. #farming #ranching #farmlife #ranchlife #cow #solar #solarpower #well #livestock #kansas #worksmartnotharder #drought #water #ranch
