DNAGENICS - How we do estimate your ancestry resultscheck your genetic ancestry test results, you might be suprised by how much we can learn about you from just from your DNA.
Your next question may be, "How exactly do we estimate these percentages?"
Our analysis looks at around 450 thousand specific DNA markers to determine what percentage of your DNA comes from each population.
Next, we need to understand the ethnicities associated with each population. We need to recognize and identify patterns of DNA linked to particular regions or populations.
To do this, we group DNA samples from people with a long family history in particular parts of the globe.
Each of these forms a reference population, for a given population.
Next, we divide your genome into over 1001 different segments.
Then we compare each segment to each of our reference populations.
If a segment is most similar to our German population, it gets labeled as German.
We repeat this process with each of our DNA segments and then total up the results.
If 10 percent of your DNA looks like that of German, then your results will show that.
Because your ancestors didn't always stay in one place some of your results may be closest to where that your DNA originated.
We keep adding samples to our reference panel and improving the algorithms we use to compare your DNA to our references, allowing us to add additional regions and leading to better precision in your results.
