Google Acquires Wiz
In a historic move, Google has agreed to acquire cloud security firm Wiz for $32 billion, marking its largest acquisition to date. This development follows Wiz's previous decision to decline a $23 billion offer from Google, opting instead to pursue an initial public offering. Wiz, founded in 2020, has rapidly become a leader in cloud security, serving 40% of Fortune 100 companies. The acquisition aims to bolster Google's cloud security offerings while allowing Wiz to maintain its multicloud platform, continuing partnerships with major cloud providers like AWS and Azure. The deal is subject to regulatory approval and reflects both companies' commitment to enhancing cloud and AI security solutions.

Rippling Sues Deel Over Insider Threat
In a dramatic escalation within the HR technology sector, Rippling has filed a lawsuit against competitor Deel, alleging corporate espionage. The suit claims that Deel recruited a Rippling employee to act as a spy, accessing and stealing proprietary information from Rippling's internal databases, including sales leads and internal communications. Rippling reportedly set up a "honeypot" trap—a fake Slack channel—to confirm the employee's misconduct, which allegedly led to the discovery of the espionage. Deel has denied all allegations, labeling them as sensationalized and asserting that they are a diversion from Rippling's own legal challenges. Both companies, valued at over $10 billion each, have been fierce competitors in the HR technology market, and this lawsuit marks a significant intensification of their rivalry.

Medusa Ransomware Hit 300 Critical Infrastructure Orgs
The Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA), in collaboration with the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and the Multi-State Information Sharing and Analysis Center (MS-ISAC), has issued a joint Cybersecurity Advisory detailing the tactics, techniques, and procedures (TTPs) associated with Medusa ransomware. Identified as a ransomware-as-a-service (RaaS) variant since June 2021, Medusa has affected over 300 victims across various critical infrastructure sectors, including medical, education, legal, insurance, technology, and manufacturing. The advisory highlights that Medusa operators employ a double extortion model, encrypting victim data and threatening public release if ransoms are not paid. To mitigate the threat, organizations are urged to patch known vulnerabilities, segment networks to limit lateral movement, and filter network traffic to prevent unauthorized access to internal systems.
