In honor of Native American Heritage Day, we explore two authentic pre-colonial Wampanoag recipes from the eastern woodlands of coastal Massachusetts. This video explores the culinary traditions of succotash and a cranberry sauce with blueberries and maple syrup as they might have been made before European contact in 1620.

Historical notes: These recipes are based on archaeological evidence, oral histories, and historical records of traditional Wampanoag cooking. We've worked to honor the original cooking methods while making these dishes accessible for modern kitchens.

It is our deepest held belief that if sharing a meal with someone is the best way to understand them then trying to cook one the way they may have is the ultimate form of understanding.
