What is an Audio Compressor?
You've probably heard about compressors a lot as a music producer, but maybe you've never quite understood what they were. How can a compressor make something louder? They compress the loudest parts of your audio, which makes them closer in volume to the quietest parts. Then they turn up the volume on the newly squashed audio which ultimately has the effect of making the quiet sounds louder! It's a weird back-to-front concept that can be hard to get your head around at first.
