ALBUQUERQUE – APD detectives are investigating three overnight homicides.
2nd St and Gold Ave SW
Detectives are responding to a fatal shooting that occurred at 1:35 a.m. A male victim was shot and died at the scene.
6th St. and Copper Ave SW
Officers were initially alerted at 2:05 a.m. to a stabbing in an alleyway in the area of 6th St. and Copper Ave., S.W. A victim was taken from the scene in a van. Officers later learned that a male victim showed up with stab wounds at an urgent care center on Albuquerque’s West Side. The victim was determined to be deceased at the urgent care. Detectives are responding to the scene near Copper Ave to start an investigation.
UPDATE- ALBUQUERQUE – APD homicide detectives arrested Tyvon Leno for the overnight stabbing death of his brother, Ozal Leno in Downtown Albuquerque.
The two brothers, who are from Acoma Pueblo, were in a vehicle with their mother and two other men around 2 a.m. After visiting bars and nightclubs in Downtown, the group got into a mini-van and the two brothers started arguing. Their mother told detectives she pleaded with them to get along, but the arguing got physical.
According to the witnesses inside the van, Ozal Leno, 28, punched Tyvon Leno, 26, before Tyvon struck Ozal in the neck. The others in the car said they did not see a knife, but Ozal Leno started bleeding profusely from the neck. Tyvon Leno fled from the van, while his mother tried to stop the bleeding from Ozal Leno’s neck. One of the other men drove the group to an urgent care center on the West Side. He died as a result of the wound to his neck.
Downtown officers were flagged down by Tyvon Leno who said his brother had been stabbed. He led officers to the area of 6th St. and Copper Ave., where officers saw blood splatter on the sidewalk. Tyvon Leno initially said someone else stabbed his brother, but later admitted he stabbed him.
Tyvon Leno declined to talk to homicide detectives today about the incident. Detectives obtained an arrest warrant charging him with an open count of murder and tampering with evidence. He was booked this evening into the Metro Detention Center.
1123 4th St SW
Officers responded at 2:20 a.m. to reports of a shooting in the 1100 block of 4th St., S.W. A deceased male victim was located with an apparent gunshot wound. A female victim was grazed by a bullet and transported to a local hospital. She is in stable condition. Detectives are responding to this scene to start an investigation.
