HIMIG PADAYON - Buckinghamshire Healthcare NHS Trust Open Day 2024
Back in June of this year, between its 1st and 2nd week, an email invitation to join the BHT Open day 2024 was received and deputy chief nurse Mitchell Fernandez reached out to both Sheirlyn and Sheena and asked if the Padayon community (The Padayon community is a social group that helps new Filipino comers to the UK) can join and do some performance and so, the twin did search for people who share the same passion for either dancing or singing and they’ve got responses mostly from obviously, singers. On June 24, 2024, the group was formed and started to set meetings to form a group name, song list preparation and set dates for practice (Although meetings were mostly focused on palate and not vocal because we also love to eat!, JK).
The group has agreed and came up with the name "Himig Padayon", which can be translated from Filipino as "Sound of Perseverance" or "Melody of Continuance."
"Himig" means "sound" or "melody."
"Padayon" is a Filipino (Visayan) term that means "to continue," "to persevere," or "to carry on." Therefore, the name signifies a commitment to enduring and continuing through the power of music.

Our first performance consists of 3 songs (2 being English and 1 Tagalog/Filipino).
The first song is from the 1996 Broadway musical Rent, written and composed by Jonathan Larson. The lyrics ask what the proper way is to quantify the value of a year in human life, concluding in the chorus that the most effective means is to "measure in love".
The second song is a Filipino/Tagalog song entitled “Tagumpay nating lahat” or (Victory of us all) was originally sung by our very own, Ms. Lea Salonga (an international Broadway/theatre artist) which depicts mirror of a nation’s hope, hard work, and success.
Lastly, the song “This Is Me" is a song performed by Keala Settle for the film The Greatest Showman. The hidden meaning within the song lies not in individual triumph, but collective emancipation. It is an acknowledgment that the journey to self-discovery and acceptance often comes with the support of a community, a fellowship of warriors who empower one another to embrace their ‘glorious’ truths, just like us, the NHS/BHT workers.
For our final performance, we have prepared 4 songs (2 English and 2 Filipino/Tagalog)
The first one is a song popularised by the English rock band the Beatles (Can anyone guess?). The song is a reminder that everything is going to be alright, and we just have to have faith and “Let it be”.
The songs, “Bahay kubo and Paru-parong bukid” are popular Filipino folk songs that helps us celebrate and remember that farms, livelihood, and the people in the Philippines.
Finally, our last song is dedicated to us all and aims to put an emphasis on equality, diversity, and inclusion, which we all are aware and respect. The song is a charity single originally recorded by the supergroup USA for Africa in 1985. It was written by Michael Jackson and Lionel Richie. Also, the song is one of our ways to express how grateful we are for welcoming us here with warmth and love.
