IFR Route Planning - [Choose The Right SID, AIRWAY, STAR and, APPROACH Procedure].
In today's video, you are going to see how to plan an IFR flight. You will be able to choose the right SID, the right Airway, the right Arrival and, the Approach Procedure.
In order to fly from Airport A to Airport B under IFR you need to follow the Airways, the problem is that you cannot join or leave the Airways as you wish. So you need to choose the procedures that will allow you to join and leave the AIrway.
The procedure that will allow you to join the AIrway from your departure Airport is called Standard Instrumental Departure (SID), the procedure that allows you to leave the Airway is called Standard Arrival Route (STAR).
What you need to do is to find a SID that ends up on a point that is the entry point of the Airway of your interest.
The same is also valid when you need to leave the Airway.
The SID and the STAR take the name from the entry/exit point of the AIrway.
Once you get close to your destination Airport you need to choose and fly an Approach Procedure that will allow you to fly from the Initial Approach FIx to your landing.
