What is Peer Instruction? How can I use it in my classroom?
THIS IS A TWO DAY WORKSHOP (IN-PERSON)

Day 2: September 7, 2024: 9:00 am – 4:00 pm
Peer Instruction (PI) is an active learning approach which has been implemented in place of didactic lectures to teach STEM subjects for more than a decade. In a typical PI session students are presented with a challenging question through an audience-response system (ARS): initially they attempt answering the question individually. Subsequently, each student collaborate with a classmate to debate their answers, and finally provide a second response to the question. Participants will be able to implement facilitation skills to encourage argumentation between learners, create mutiple-choice questions that promote meaningful discourse, and interpret ARS statistics to monitor students’ learning. The workshop will focus on the application of PI in the context of medical education. Therefore, a wide variety of health professionals and educators would benefit from attending this activity.
