Patternwork in crosswinds, part 1 of 2
This video is part one of two videos recorded during a dual lesson at KBVY with AVIER flight school. The conditions were 020 variable to 050 degrees at 17 gusting to 29 knots with runway 34 in use. We also did move to runway 09 for one circuit. Notice that the focus was on relaxing the student in order to enable his best observational skills, and assisting him in remaining focused on the most pertinent details as they evolved in this dynamic environment. Included was a demonstration by the instructor, Paul Beaulieu, and a low pass by the student with a final culminating, successful, center-line touch down by the student at the end of video 2. Another hallmark of our school is the constant use of reinforcing gestures and words when positive behaviors are noted. Emphasize the positive is, of course, one of our core responsibilities as instructors, and the effective use of this technique is key to a student's perception of their abilities and of their ultimate success.
