This video shows how to add RAM to your PC, it is typically pretty easy, given your computer can handle the RAM and you have the right stick. Currently there is 4GB installed, and I am adding 4 more GB's.
The PC is a Dell Optiplex 380 - 64 Bit, if it was 32 Bit this RAM could be installed, but not utilized. Meaning the computer would sense the RAM is there, but could not use it for its benefit, as 32 bit machines can only handle 4GB of RAM.
This PC only has 2 slots for RAM, usually there is 4 slots available on most PC's, and in that case the RAM installation is a little different.
Once you install the RAM the PC should automatically detect its presence on the boot, in this video I show how to confirm its there, and how to confirm its also available to be used.
