Alan Grayson on the NRA's stranglehold on American politics
American politics are being held hostage by the NRA, and they have the guns. Even though most Americans think we should have universal background checks, re-institute the assault rifle ban, and have stricter laws about how guns are acquired and who can get them, we still can't pass a single bill.
And it isn't as if more households have guns, 42% say they have a gun, down from 51% in 1993, according to Gallup. When asked by Gallup if the laws covering the sales of firearms should be made more strict, less strict or kept as they are, 60% say more strict, up from 44% in 2011.
