Steven Witkoff could be called the second Donald Trump. He was born to a Jewish family in New York City. He earned a law degree and joined the reputable firm Dreyer & Traub. As a promising newcomer, he was assigned to a team supporting one of Trump's deals, a prominent player in the New York real estate market. There was a lot of paperwork, and he often had to work at night. One day, around 4:00 a.m., his colleagues sent him to an all-night grocery store to get some food. There, a fateful encounter occurred. The only other person in the store, aside from the clerk, was his client, Donald Trump. He, too, was hungry and completely broke. Credit cards were just becoming commonplace at the time, and cash was the norm. The young man couldn't resist buying Trump a ham and Swiss cheese sandwich. Both men remembered the encounter.
