I get this one a lot on Instagram dm's as to "Why use SMPS, where I can make my own Full Bridge Rectifier?" So in today's video I will discuss why you must not use a FBR circuit; I mean you technically do use FBR everywhere but not as a bare butt power source.
NOTE: Additionally the FBR also generates something called conduction and switching losses, where conduction losses account more for and FBR while for an IGBT controlled converter, it's the switching losses.
All in all, go for a high frequency transformer based switching power supply. The circuit also comes with over current, under-voltage, and short circuit pull-down protection schemes. and not to mention, the thermal shut-down scheme.
