Due to the new National Patient Safety Alerts (NPSA) document and updated publication in 2023 of the Medicines and Healthcare Products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) Guidance and Managing and Using Bed Rail Safely Document, today I am going to be demonstrating the correct way to attach our compatible side and grab rails to the Solite Pro Bedframe for use with the adult patient.
The safety guidance is related to both adult and paediatric use of side rails as it takes into account the BS EN60601-2-52: 2010 plus the A1:2015 standards for adult patients and 50637:2015 standards for paediatric patients. This includes both child junior beds, cots plus cribs and oversized cots.
Bed grab rails are not designed to prevent patients falling from their bed. Bed grab rails come in a variety of sizes and designs They should not be used as, or instead of, bed side rails.
The grab handles covered in these instructions for use are designed to be used as an aid for the patient when getting on and off the bed frame. The patient may also use the grab handle to aid repositioning when lying in the bed.
