Porto Palermo is a beautiful bay of the Albanian Riviera, located between Himara and Qeparo. Due to its strategic position, the shores of Porto Palermo have been used for defensive purposes since antiquity until the Second World War.
It is also known for the Castle of Porto Palermo, which is located in the closed bay of Porto Palermo, and is almost an island connected to the mainland with a narrow strip of land. The castle served as a base for ex-Soviet submarines during the communist regime in Albania, and today its half-abandoned tunnel and barracks attract the attention of visitors, as well as the walls and gates of the fortress built by the mighty Ali Pasha of Ioannina.
Porto Palermo është një gji i bukur i Rivierës Shqiptare, i lokalizuar midis Himarës dhe Qeparos. Për shkak të pozicionit të tij strategjik, brigjet e Porto Palermos janë shfrytëzuar për qëllime mbrojtëse që nga lashtësia deri në Luftën e Dytë Botërore.
Gjithashtu eshte I njohur edhe per Kalane e Porto Palermos e cila ndodhet në gjirin e mbyllur të Porto Palermos, dhe përbën gati një ishull që lidhet me kontinentin me një rrip të ngushtë toke. Kalaja shërbeu si bazë e ish-nëndetëseve sovjetike gjatë regjimit komunist në Shqipëri, dhe sot tuneli dhe baraka e saj gjysmë e braktisur tërheqin vëmendjen e vizitorëve, si dhe muret dhe portat e fortesës së ndërtuar nga Ali Pasha i fuqishëm i Janinës.
