Romantic Sax - Stranger on the Shore - Tribute to Acker BIlk
Here's my rendition of "Stranger on the Shore" by the great Acker Bilk. Acker wrote this song for his daughter (Jenny). The song subsequently ended up being the theme song for a BBC TV show of the same name. in 1962, "Stranger on the Shore" became the first British recording to reach number one on the U.S. Billboard's Hot 100. Acker's wonderul melody has been covered by many other artists, most prominently a vocal version by Andy Williams, a group vocal version by The Drifters, and a soprano sax smooth jazz adaptation by Kenny G.
For this version, I recorded backing tracks (bass and drums) using PG Music's Band-In-A-Box software. Then I dubbed in my own keyboard playing and sent the track to Nashville to my great friend "Mr. Studio" Dave Chambliss. Dave coordinated to get another terrific musician and friend (David Martin) to add some great guitar work. After the two Daves worked their magic with it all, I added some additional pad sounds. Hope you like my tribute to Mr. Bilk as much as I enjoyed playing his great song!
