The government kept on side stepping the Bougainville Referendum by delaying the process. The Consultation and rectification process were delayed because the Marape government stated that according to the PNG constitution, a province is not allowed to break away from the state. However on the vote, 97.7% majority of the Bougainvilleans voted for Independence from Papua New Guinea. In this video, Allan Bird, Governor for East Sepik, elaborating further on why the people of Bougainville should be considered when it comes to the referendum.
