I've been thinking about creating self turning, automated 3d prop scanner.
Steps:
1) Raspberry PI + stepper motor for turning platform & automated, synchronized photo capture.
2) Background removal to cheat photogrammetry software camera walks around the object
3) Perfect circle around object - software takes the bait and reconstructs the object!
Things that worked really well:
1) poor camera (RPI 5mpix camera!), poor lighting - but after removing background everything worked exceptionally well without too much tweaking.
Background removal should be easy with proper studio and lighting setup (programtacially - using OPENCV or AI powered background removal)
2) stepper motor with loose shelf as a platform :D - even weakest stepper mottor was able to turn 6kg of unstable load (4 1,5 kg water bottles)
Whats next:
1) camera with polarization filter, light polarization - probably programmable dslr controlled with RPI as well
2) studio setup (very light or very dark background for easy removal)
3) proper plaform
4) more photos of a prop of course
